Substance Abuse Services

Addiction & Substance Abuse Services

Our goal is to help you achieve resilient recovery from addiction, chemical dependency, or substance abuse issues. What is resilient recovery? We believe it is recovery that heals and strengthens in a way that allows you to withstand future difficulties with empowering tools and strategies. This is not a "treatment program" we are a group practice of clinicians who specialize in helping individuals recover one-on-one from substance abuse issues. Most of our clients never need residential treatment. With O'Brien and Associates, you will have an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals to help you resolve any issue which you may be struggling with.

We help our clients achieve resilient recovery utilizing the latest technology and evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and others. We are one of the first practices in the nation to deploy the evidence-based Addiction Recovery Management System (ARMS) technology to our substance use clients. We exclusively provide our services via secure video-counseling and telephone sessions so that anyone in any state we provide services in can access the help they need. Our experience with telehealth has shown us that it can be as or more effective than in-person services. There is a growing body of research that supports our experience.

Our Mission - A Word From Our Founder

Services Offered:

Aftercare

We receive referrals from many residential and outpatient treatment programs to help their clients maintain their sobriety after they've completed treatment. Why do they send perfectly sober clients who have completed treatment to us for aftercare? They know that clients with a comprehensive aftercare plan stay sober longer and relapse less often. 30-days (or less in many cases) is just not enough time for most people to overcome years of substance abuse and the wreckage it has created. We can help you navigate the dangers of early recovery, continue your success, and teach you relapse prevention strategies.

Assessment & Evaluations (Including Court-Ordered & DUI)

It's hard to know which direction to head if you don't know the severity of your situation. That's why we conduct thorough alcohol and drug assessments with each of our clients. We can identify underlying conditions that are driving substance abuse or relapse and ensure you are working with the proper clinician to recover. This includes an evaluation using the ARMS system, a research based proprietary tool that measures "recovery capital" and identifies strengths and areas that need improvement. The evaluation results in a recovery plan, which maps out the path that best meets your needs. If we determine that you need a higher level of care, or you are having withdrawal symptoms - we'll help you secure the appropriate resources. There is never any long-term commitment, in fact, many of our substance abuse clients are able to continue their recovery with us after 3 to 4 months. If you're in need of a court-ordered evaluation or need one in advance of DUI proceedings, we can assist you in a relatively short time frame. Read more here regarding court-mandated evaluations.

Consultations

If you Google "addiction treatment" you'll get hundreds of pages of unethical patient brokering operations, programs promising miracles, bait and switch scams, cult organizations, and conflicting data on what works and what doesn't. It's difficult for the average person to make sense of it and plot a successful course forward. We have consulted with hundreds of individuals seeking help, their loved ones, and even their friends. We help them evaluate their options, make tough decisions, and save money. We can provide you with a free, no-pressure, 30-minute phone consultation to help you explore your options and determine if our services will help you. For more complex situations, we can provide consultation services on an hourly basis. We will remove the guesswork, educate you, and help you feel confident about your decisions.

Counseling

Many clients are overwhelmed by the problems caused by substance abuse. They find it difficult to break the cycle of relapse. In substance abuse counseling our job is to arm you with new coping strategies and tools for overcoming these problems. We'll address new issues as they arise and work hard to prevent relapses. We'll make sense of the painful feelings and emotions, and combat post-acute withdrawal symptoms head-on. We'll even create a plan to help you stay on the right track at the conclusion of your counseling. While most treatment programs only help clients with substance abuse issues, our practice can help you with trauma or more complex mental health issues. We can also coordinate psychiatric and medical services. With O'Brien and Associates, you will have an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals to help you resolve any issue which you may be struggling with.

Court-Ordered (Mandated) Counseling Sessions

If you've found yourself required to complete a certain number of substance abuse counseling sessions as a result of a civil or criminal proceeding we can help you complete these requirements. We have worked with many clients under these circumstances in California, Oregon, and many other states. While the protection of public safety is the number one priority in these circumstances, we conduct them with the utmost compassion and work to provide you with a positive experience.
